Pistol: Kentucky Dueling
The Kentucky Pistol was a classic weapon in North America during the 18th and 19th centuries, used in both the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783) and again in the American Civil War (1861-1865).
The War of Independence of the United States was a long conflict, which faced the original Thirteen British Colonies in North America against the Kingdom of Great Britain for eight and a half years, ending with the British defeat at the Battle of Yorktown.
No doubt examples of this pistol accompanied American whalers down into the southern whale fisheries off the coasts of New Zealand and were probably traded with Maori for wood, water, recreation and re-provisions.
Later on the American Civil War took place between 1861 and 1865 - the two sides facing off were the forces of the Northern states (The Union) against the newly Formed Confederate States of America, integrated by eleven states of the South, that proclaimed its independence.
