Two Christmas Recipes Tea Towel
The Edmonds cookbook in its hey-day: reassuring recipes were printed on sturdy cream pages in a no-fuss grey-blue font, occasionally underlined in red. Page after page laid out how to baste this, roll that, sift, beat, combine and whip. And every so often there was a full-colour image of cakes, biscuits, puddings, or sweets. Other pages might be crisp with dried drips of creamed butter and sugar, speckled with splashes of egg yolk, or have scribbled notes in the margin, but not the colour pictures - they remained pristine in all their saturated glory, the standard bearers of what Edmonds cakes, biscuits, puddings, or sweets should look like, laid out on damask tablecloths with a vases of flowers and, resting nearby, serving cutlery.
Exclusive to Heritage New Zealand our Edmonds Two Christmas Recipes Tea Towel re-presents this acme of post-war, pre-television food styling. This illustration of Christmas Cake and Christmas Plum Pudding is lifted straight out of an Edmonds cookbook (given with permission to use by Goodman Fielder).
