Huia Feather Wall Hanging
Emblematic of that which is most precious and rare, the Huia feather occupies a unique place in New Zealand iconography. This ceramic wall hanging is not only a beautiful representation of it, but also a reminder of the fragility of life. Stunning.
The Huia was a bird found only in New Zealand, from a family so ancient it had no relation anywhere else in the world. In a land of birds, to Māori it was the most sacred of all. The striking tail feathers were highy prized and only worn by people of rank. Already rare when Europeans arrived, the Huia was eventually hunted to extinction by specimen collectors in the early years of the twentieth century.
Handmade in New Zealand. Can also be used as a platter.
