Without Compromise: A Brief History
Founded in the United States in 1874, the New Zealand chapter of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was formed in 1885. The union promoted temperance, Christian values, social reform and the abolition of the alcohol and opium trade. Local membership peaked in the late 1920s at around 7700 members.
Ian Dougherty is a historian based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin. With an MA in History from the Univeristy of Otago and a Diploma in Journalism from Canterbury University, Ian has authored over 30 non-fiction books on Aotearoa New Zealand's history, biography, culture and society.
