Heke's War
Extracts from a diary kept by the Reverend R. Burrows during the War in the North, 1845 - 1846.
As a missionary Burrows was considered a neutral observer and as such able to visit both camps. His first hand accounts were published in 1886 and provide an important and unique perspective on the first major conflict between Maori and the British.
Republished by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga in 2001, 2007, and now 2022, from an original 1886 copy held in the Kemp House collection.
